Gatekeepers issue Press cards to professional newsgatherers in the UK who need to identify themselves in public, or to authorities, during the course of their media work. Cardholders must be wholly or significantly concerned with the gathering, transport or processing of information or images for use by the media. In simple terms, the majority of a newsgatherer’s work or income must come from their work on the frontline of the news industry.
Gatekeepers should not knowingly, recklessly or negligently issue a card to anyone who does not meet the criteria, or, do anything which would bring the Scheme or Authority into disrepute. To do so could lead to the suspension of the Gatekeeper from the UK Press Card Authority.
